This policy covers the cutlassedge.com website and the CutlassEdge desktop app. If you are a member of the Pirate Traders Brigade, a workshop, or a course, or you are on our mailing list through piratetraders.io, that activity is covered by the Pirate Traders privacy policy.
The CutlassEdge app is local-first: your market data, charts, trading journal, and settings stay on your computer, and we never receive them. What we collect is the minimum to run the business: your email and license record when you buy, what you voluntarily send us (feedback, diagnostics if you opt in, support emails), and ordinary website basics. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your data to train AI models.
| Data | When | Why | Legal basis (EU/UK) |
|---|---|---|---|
| License key, activation record, and a hashed install identifier | At activation and periodic license checks | To operate licensing and prevent abuse | Contract |
| Diagnostics: app version, platform, the active view name and instrument symbol name, preference key names and counts, and the error and crash details | Only if you opt in, or if you press send on a crash screen | To fix defects | Consent |
| Feedback you type, with any snapshot you choose to attach | Only when you use the feedback button | To improve the product | Consent |
| Update checks (a standard web request; our host sees an IP address in its logs) | When the app checks for updates | To deliver updates | Legitimate interest |
| Usage counts (which features are used; no chart data, no account data) | Only if you opt in; off by default | To prioritize development | Consent |
What the app never sends us: your market data, prices, charts, positions, orders, journal entries, workspaces, or your broker or data-feed credentials. Your data-feed and brokerage connections run directly between your computer and your own providers, under your own accounts.
| Data | Source | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your CutlassEdge purchase record (email, plan, license) | You buy directly from us, Pirate Traders Inc.; our payment processor, Stripe, processes your payment and applicable taxes under its own privacy policy, and we do not receive or store your full card number | To issue and manage your license |
| Your email address for the waitlist or product updates | Waitlist and product-update signup forms, and the optional opt-in at checkout | To send the emails you asked for; unsubscribe anytime via the link in every email |
| Support emails and their contents | You | To help you |
| Basic site logs and essential cookies | Your browser | Website operation and security |
We share personal information only with service providers that process it for us under their own contractual duties: our payment processor, Stripe (payment, subscription billing, and tax calculation), our email provider (list delivery), and our app and website infrastructure provider, which hosts our license, update, and feedback services and the website. We disclose information if the law requires it, or in connection with a merger or sale of the business, in which case your data travels with the business under this policy's promises. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We do not use your personal information, your feedback, or anything from your app to train AI models. If a future app feature generates AI narration, it runs on data already on your machine, and any content sent to an AI service for processing will be disclosed here first and will not include your personal information without your consent.
Purchase and license records: while your license or account exists, plus the period tax and accounting law requires. Waitlist and mailing list: until you unsubscribe. Diagnostics and feedback: up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymized. Support email: up to 24 months after the thread closes. We delete sooner on request where the law allows (Section 6).
Email privacy@piratetraders.com to access, correct, download, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict processing. We honor these requests regardless of where you live, subject to records we must keep by law. If you are in the EU, UK, or a similar jurisdiction, these are your statutory rights (GDPR Articles 15 to 21), our legal bases are listed in Section 2, and you may complain to your local supervisory authority. If you are a California resident, we do not sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms.
We are a US company and process data in the United States. Where EU or UK data is transferred to us or our providers, it is protected by our providers' safeguards, including standard contractual clauses where applicable.
We maintain a written information security program (Massachusetts 201 CMR 17.00): access controls and two-factor authentication on our systems, encrypted transmission, minimal data collection by design, and vendor due diligence. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and regulators as the law requires.
The Service is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
We will post changes here with a new "Last updated" date. The current version always lives on this page.
